Trichogramms or chalcididaes’ are very small insects that are difficult to see with the naked eye, belonging to the order of Hymenoptera. The trichogramma preparation contains Trichogramma embryophagum Hartig. These little insects attack and destroy the eggs of various garden pests. Trichogramms have been used in Latvia for more than 50 years. They combat most of the pests that lay their eggs on plants. The most active and effective trichogramms are when they are released during the time when the night temperature is above + 10 Celsisu. After hatching from the eggs, the trichogramms spreads within a radius of 20-30 m from the release site, depending on the weather.

Purchased trichogramms should first be kept in a room that is in a bright, warm (but not hot) place. After a few days, the shell will start to hatch and you will see them crawling along the walls of the container. It is best to release trichogramms in the garden during warm, dry weather, without strong winds. Trichogramms can also be placed in the garden in cold and humid weather, as long as it does not start to rain within an hour of release, the trichogramms will be able to find a hiding place and get accustom with the garden.
